LEADERSHIP STUDIES

Y
|
Prerequisite: Students
must have teacher, counselor, or administrative recommendation for
approval.
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
This class is organized to provide opportunities for interested
students to be introduced to leadership skills
applications that ought to help prepare them for issues facing today’s
emerging student leaders. Many colleges are asking certain majors
(e.g. Engineering) to enroll in Leadership Studies courses. The
PHS Leadership Studies class would allow students to have a “leg up” on
other college-bound students.
Identification, implementation, and design of positive school “climate”
changes will be addressed. This course will provide students with
a setting to reflect and act on what they are learning about leadership.
Topics discussed shall include PHS building improvement (from a student
perspective), negotiating skills, ef-fective voice/communication
skills, and brainstorming ideas to generate student unity, school
spirit, and other rele-vant student related matters. Time
out of class will be required to work on various projects. Also,
students will be incorporated with Student Council.
