2500 PARENTING

Prerequisite: None
Grade: 11 or 12      
This course gives students a comprehensive overview of child development from pregnancy on up.  A focus is given on the ages and stages, physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development.  Strong, positive parenting skills are critical in today’s world.  The effect of these skills impacts home and employment situations.  This course is great for students wanting to explore child care or elementary education as a career.   This class does not meet the Kansas Regents Qualified Admission Curriculum.





6040 CAREER AND LIFE PLANNING

Grade:   9, 10, 11, and 12
This course is designed for students interested in developing a management plan for life beyond high school; caring for self and others; planning to assure career success, and coordinating personal and career responsibilities.  Personal life choices made, now and throughout life, determine quality of life.





6070 CONSUMER EDUCATION

Prerequisite: Not recommended for freshmen.
Grade: 10, 11, 12
Students will learn how to manage resources to achieve personal and family goals.  Class information will include how to make wise decisions about food, clothing, transportation, housing, credit, saving, investments, and more.  This class provides an opportunity to learn basic living skills.





6120   INTERIOR DESIGN AND FURNISHING

Prerequisite: None
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
This course gives students the guidelines they will need to make wise housing decisions.  Including how to acquire a home, construction information, and how to furnish and decorate an attractive home.  The elements and principles of design will be covered as well as how to use color effectively.  Careers in housing and interiors will also be addressed.   





6130   FASHION IMAGE AND IMPACT

Prerequisite: None   
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
Students will investigate the role clothing plays in their lives.  In addition students will learn clothing history and the latest trends.  Students will investigate the use of design elements and principles in choosing clothing to enhance their appearance and exploration of careers in the fashion-related industry





6160   WELLNESS AND NUTRITION

Prerequisite: None
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
The first nine weeks students will discover how proper nutrition and a quality lifestyle impacts physical, emotional, and social health.  Students will study nutritional needs of the body and food sources for meeting these requirements.  The second nine weeks kitchen laboratory experiences will stress the correct methods for preparing foods with emphasis placed on planning well-balanced meals that are nutritional as well as appealing.  This class is for students who will be managing their own homes or entering a career in food science.
