GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL



A total of 25 units of credit is required for graduation.  Fifteen credits are required (see below) and the remaining 10 credits are elective courses chosen by the student.

Honors Courses
An extensive amount of course work will be required, including outside reading and written papers. Students will be responsible for successfully completing all assignments, turning in assignments on time, and participating in class dis-cussions and activities. Students may be transferred out of honors classes for low achievement or poor behavior. 


Dual and Concurrent Credit
Dual credit classes are courses offered through LCC and taught at the LCC campus.  Concurrent credit courses are taught at PHS and are awarded college credit through LCC.   College fees for dual credit and concurrent credit classes are the responsibility of the student.

Concurrent Credit requirements (Juniors or Seniors)   On High School Campus
•    Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA
•    Student must meet a set score on the ACT or Compass test*
•    Building Administration approval (Discipline record, Attendance record, State Assessment Scores, Map Scores and Teacher recommendations)

Dual Credit requirements (Seniors)   Off Campus
Students may enroll in one hour of LCC courses during the school day while attending six hours at PHS.  Students wanting to enroll in more than one hour need building administrator approval prior to enrollment.
•    Student must have at least a 3.25 GPA
•    Student must have no unexcused absences
•    Student must meet a set score on the ACT or Compass test*
•    Building Administration approval (Discipline record, Attendance record, State Assessment Scores, Map Scores and Teacher recommendations)

*Students must have a Reading score of an 18 or higher on the ACT or a 75 or higher on the Com-pass to enroll in any course at LCC.  In addition, English and Math courses require a set score on the English and Math portions of the ACT or Compass test.

Students wanting to enroll in English Composition must also have an 18 or higher on the English portion of the ACT or score a 70-100 on the Compass Writing test

Kansas Regents Qualified Admissions Curriculum
One or more of the following requirements must be met for admission to any of the six Kansas Regents Universities: (KU, KSU, PSU, ESU, WSU and FHSU)
• Achieve an ACT composite score of 21 or above;
    or
• Rank in the top one third of your high schools graduating class;
    or
• Complete the qualified admissions curriculum with at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

3 units - must take three from the following courses:  Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (at least one unit chemistry or physics)

3 units - to include Algebra 1, Algebra II and Geometry
Social Science 3 units - to include US History, American Government and World History and one of the following: Psychology, Economics, Current Events, Geography or Sociology.

Kansas high school seniors may be eligible to be considered for one of three state sponsored scholarship programs:
    •State Scholarship Program
    •Minority Scholarship Program
    •Kansas Teachers Scholarship

To be eligible to be considered for one of these scholarships, the student must complete all of the required courses
 for the Qualified Admissions Curriculum, plus an additional three units as follows:

English
no additional units required
Natural Science
3 units must include Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Math
1 additional unit (total of four units) of advanced math
      selected from Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry,  or Calculus

Social Science
