TEACHER'S AIDE (FIRST SEMESTER)

Prerequisite: Permission
of the instructor. Students
who have failed a class the previous semester MAY NOT be a Teacher's Aide. They must have
a 2.5 GPA and no more than ten absences.
Grade: 12. Students will not be
considered a senior until they have 18 credits at the beginning of the
fall semester of their senior year. This class will be graded on a pass/fail basis and have no effect
on the student's grade point average.

permission. Must be employed
Grade: 12
This is a course for seniors who have successfully completed the
Entrepreneurship class and want to learn specific skills.
Students must have an approved job within one week from the start of
the semester and will be released during the enrolled hour to
work. The student will put into practice the job getting skills
and the job retention skills they learned in Entrepreneurship.
The student should work an average of five hours each week for each
hour of enrollment. The student is responsible for providing
his/her own transportation. The student will keep a record of hours
worked. The student’s work will be supervised and evaluated by
the employer (not a family member) and the COT Director. 1/2 credit per
hour of enrollment.

COMMUNITY SERVICE (1ST SEMESTER/2ND SEMESTER)

Prerequisite:
Entrepreneurship and instructor permission
Grade: 11, 12
The class will meet one week in the classroom preparing for a volunteer
job in the community. These jobs will be offered by elementary
schools, Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Labette County
Medical Center, local nursing homes, SKIL, American Red Cross, etc.
Students will be free to choose their jobs, picking the one that most
appeals to their interests. The work in the community will last
approximately 17 weeks. Each student must keep a daily journal of
his/her experience to pass the course.
Their supervisors and the classroom teacher will evaluate
students. The final week will be spent reviewing, evaluating and
sharing their experience with the class. Students must turn in
timesheets to document their experience. Students will complete 1
hour per day at the job site. Students must be able to furnish their
own transportation to their assignment. Students wishing to
enroll for more than one semester may do so with the permission of the
instructor and counselor.

COMMUNITY BASED TRAINING

of the Instructor
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
Program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to receive
small group vocational training opportunities at a business site (with
a paraprofessional) to determine their skill level and interest
area. When the student has met a specific criteria area they are
rotated to a different training site. Currently PHS has seven
business sites for students to experience work skills and related
activities.
