This is a systematic study of the development and structure of the
Federal Government. Topic areas include: theories of
economic and political systems of government, colonial foundations, the
Constitution, citizenship, politics, and the Legislative, Executive,
and Judicial branches of government. The class will also study state,
county and local government. The emphasis of this course is on
interpretation and analysis of data rather than on a mere recognition
of facts.

This basic survey course of American History reviews events from
approximately 1900 to present day. Emphasis is placed on events
and people during the 20th century.

A brief review of America’s early history is followed by a more
detailed study of the late 19th century and 20th century. Case studies
of the respective periods, as well as cultural contributions of the
many ethnic groups, are presented. Students will be expected to
research, analyze, and write.

Grade: 9 Required
First semester of the course begins with prehistory and then explores
the ancient empires of Egypt, Middle East, China, Greece and
Rome. The course will conclude in the High Middle Ages.
Particular attention will be given to the effect that geography had on
the establishment and development of human history.
Second semester of the course begins with the Renaissance and continues
through the Reformation, the age of Reason, the French and American
Revolutions, The Industrial Revolution, the Age of Imperialism, and
their effects on today’s world. The civilizations of Asia, Africa
and South America are also presented. Extensive map work
displaying the changes in political boundaries will be included.

The study of sociology examines the ways people interact with one
another. It will be shown as a young and dynamic science, which
is rapidly expanding all over the world as man seeks to better
understand himself and his relationships with others. We will
discuss sociology as a behavioral science, investigating the
development and basic characteristics of sociology and the procedure
that sociologists use.

Students will gain knowledge about physical and human geography of our
world. The students will also be able to enhance their
understanding of the world’s regions and cultures. The
students will be able to read and understand various forms of maps and
charts to help them understand the world they live in and how global
the United States has become.

first course offered in psychology and, as such, it introduces the

Parenting will provide students with important knowledge to consider
before becoming a parent, knowledge and techniques to assist in the
understanding and guidance of being a parent or caregiver of young
children. This course is a local requirement for graduation. This
class does NOT meet the Kansas Regents Qualified Admissions Curriculum.
